The blurb of a book is an extremely important factor in getting people to read your work, so you need to make sure it is succinct, clear, and of course, a good explanation of your story.
It needs to reveal what the book is about without giving away too much, and it needs to hook your readers in quickly.
Writing a blurb is certainly one of the more challenging things I’ve had to do during the writing, editing, and publishing process, and while I won’t know just yet if I have nailed it or not, I am excited to share my blurb with the world.
As you may know, I am publishing my debut novel and part of this huge process is marketing!
Blurbs are one of the best ways to market a book to your future readers, as it gives them a hint about what it actually going to be in your book. Coming up with it can be daunting, especially because many authors (including myself) probably feel as though their stories can’t be reduced to a few short sentences.
Even so, I am so grateful to have been able to write a blurb for my story. It’s so amazing to do all the little things that make up a book like writing this little summary, because it makes it all feel so complete.
With all that said, here is the blurb for Tale of the Dragon Champion:
Eighteen years ago, the Black Rebellion stormed the mighty capital of Kerzov, slaughtering the Dragon Empress and her court. With the Empire destroyed, the rebel leaders attempted to divide the continent amongst themselves with disastrous results, and the wars that followed have no end in sight.
Aleksander Noyakov lost everything the night the Dragon Court fell. Since then, he has spent every moment preparing the Kerzovi rebels to retake their country and destroy those who had betrayed his Empress. As he doubts whether the rebel leaders will ever choose to act, he finds a woman who might be the key to achieving everything he wants, including restoring the Empire.
Nadya Stepanova is a Kerzovi conscript, forced to fight for a foreign king and hunt down those deemed ‘undesirable’. Her country has been exploited, her people enslaved, and all hope, including Nadya’s, is gone. That is until a mission to capture Kerzovi rebels goes wrong, and she is swept up into their quest for liberation. Yet, as their campaign begins, the truth of Nadya’s past is uncovered, and her identity may threaten the lives of everything and everyone on the continent. Now, she must decide between her own freedom and the destiny she was born to fulfill.
But no choice ever comes without consequences.
