“If you want to be a grocer, or a general, or a politician, or a judge, you will invariably become it; that is your punishment. If you never know what you want to be, if you live what some might call the dynamic life but what I will call the artistic life, if each day you are unsure of who you are and what you know you will never become anything, and that is your reward.”

Oscar Wilde

I don’t like telling people to ‘be careful’ of wanting things, because it feels limiting, and who am I to put limits on you?

Think of this more as a warning and advice.

What you want in life, you will get – so make sure you are putting your mind to the right things.

I could tell you countless stories from my life where I wrote down things I wanted, and then a few months or even years later, I looked back to find that I had manifested my desires.

I’d like to learn French one day; I think blonde hair would suit me; Writing a book would be so fun! It would be nice to get a compliment on my makeup today, I’d love shoes like that, I wish my body looked like this…

But there have been other things too… I hate this workplace, I would rather be anywhere else! I hate that job, I’d never want to do it. I hope I don’t have to work with him on this project… And guess what happens. Facepalm.

I can firmly say that I manifested all of those things. The good and the bad and the incredibly bad too. I’ve manifested the creation and destruction of so many relationships, I’ve brought in amazing gifts and horrible experiences, all because I gave my attention to it. If you know anything about manifestation, you’ll know then the most important concept is exactly that: what you give your attention to is what you’ll manifest, for better or for worse.

So what do you do to make sure your manifestations are positive?

1 – Be mindful of this concept, and know that the negative manifestations are sometimes the most powerful, so be careful of the negative things that you say you don’t want. Make peace with them so they don’t overtake your subconscious, because remember: what you give your attention to, is what you attract!

2 – On the flip side, make sure you are focusing on the good things that you want to bring into your life. Vision boards are a great way for you to visualise the items, experiences, and people you want to manifest. Affirmations and intention-setting through journalling are also helpful. There are dozens of techniques out there, so try them out and let them work for you. Some of my manifestations took years, others took moments.

3 – Detach. By this I mean make peace with the outcome. This is one of the toughest concepts to grasp and to do well. Think of it like this: If you want something so badly, and you throw all this energy at it, you may energetically repel it. What you need to do is make peace with it, so that no matter what happens, you will be okay.

Desperation is not productive, so make sure you are not swinging too far in the opposite direction with too much energy. There is a sweet spot, where you work towards what you desire, while also allowing it to come to you. Release the energy you put towards something and let your manifestations reach you. They will, if you have done the work, rest in the knowledge that they are on the way.

Manifestation does not need to be a scary or strange concept, it also doesn’t need to be nearly as spiritual or strange as some people make it out to be.

If you want to test this out for yourself, think about some of the things you wanted when you were younger – how many of them came to be? (Please let me know in the comments, I love hearing these kinds of stories!)

I found an old journal page detailing a host of things I wanted for my life, with everything from appearance to job to education, and what do you know? It’s all here, I’ve got everything I wanted.

Try it to yourself, and be amazed.
