Looking for a great steakhouse to try that won’t break the bank? D.W. SteakHouse in Sunnybank’s Market Square is a must-try. This restaurant has recently opened, and will satisfy all your steak-loving needs.

My Mum was the one to find this spot, sending me the ad and asking when we could go. We decided to go on Wednesday, usually our ‘easy dinner’ night where we don’t really cook all that much. So, in the humid evening air, we headed down to Sunnybank to give it a go.

Parking and Timing

We went early, arriving around 5:30pm. Yes, I know that’s early, my family just really like to eat at that time (thoughts and prayers are welcome).

However, Market Square is usually hectic, especially for finding a park, so I was glad to beat the traffic somewhat. The car parks were already mostly full, but we found a spot on the third level and slotted in.

For a Wednesday night, the restaurant wasn’t too busy, but it was full enough to see that the place was popular.

Vibe and Service

The restaurant was bright and very open. We got a table close to the entrance, and it didn’t feel crowded or too noisy at any point, despite being quite full for a Wednesday night. Everything was neat and clean, and I liked the minimal styling and organisation.

The service was a highlight, with plenty of servers checking in with us throughout the night to ensure we were enjoying everything. I always love dining at Sunnybank because of this, the food is great but the service is always better!

Food and Drink

Onto the main event! We ordered our drinks straight away, getting three of the mocktails. Two Sunset Sparkle mocktails ($13 each) and a Yuzu Twilight mocktail for my sister ($13). These were all fantastic, and served in large cups. You definitely got what you paid for here.

Then it was onto the mains. I was struggling to choose for a while, as there were so many good options, but in the end I settled on the Wagyu Double Beef Burger. Mum had the Angus Flank Steak and my sister had the Grilled Garlic Chicken Steak.

The wait was short, and in no time we had our food!

My burger was massive, served with a side of crispy fries and aioli sauce. The chips were great, super crispy and just enough to go with everything. As for the burger, the two patties were thick and juicy, just as you’d expect your Wagyu to be. Toppings included three large slices of tomato, a thick-cut slice of grilled onion, lettuce, and cheese, of course. I am not the biggest onion fan, so I took off a little of the onion, only keeping the thinner pieces for myself, but I don’t mind tomato so those were fine.

One of the coolest parts about the burger was the fact that they served the food with a pair of plastic gloves, to keep you from getting too messy! I love the idea, because as much as it pains me to use more plastic, I also hate the sticky-saucy sensation you can get from burgers. Alas, my first bite barely even made a dent in the burger, and I knew I had to change strategies.

I split the burger in two and ate the top half separately to the bottom, using a knife and fork. In hindsight, I probably could have eaten with my hands like that, but I was too hungry. I enjoyed the mustard and thousand-isle sauces they had on the burger (sauce is a must for me) and the thick tomato and grilled onion pieces added a fresh and smoky flavour.

As for Mum and my sister, they really enjoyed their meals too. They both had their steaks served with a side of spaghetti bolognese, vegetables and egg. My sister doesn’t like eggs, so she ordered hers without it, but the rest was great.

The steaks were flavoured well, when Mum ordered the Angus, the server presented a poster for her to choose how well-done she likes it. I thought it was a great addition, especially for those who have never really had steak before. Growing up, all my steaks were well-done to the point of being…well, they were very chewy. The first time I saw a pink steak I was stunned, but I soon became a convert myself.

They also had another poster for first-time visitors that had other information to help you choose. It took me a moment to work it out, but I think it is still a great resource. Personally, I’m a visual choice-maker, so give me a menu with pictures and I’ll be happy, but this was still a useful overview.

I highly recommend you give this one a go! There are plenty of choices for people of all ages, and there were heaps of families there with grandparents and young children too.

I think there are plenty of options, and the prices are very good. You can also order Wagyu options or seafood if that is your preference, you’ll just pay a little more. Altogether, this was a great experience and a spot I can definitely see myself returning to soon.
